The Paphos Lighthouse is a magnificent 20-metre-high structure built of whitewashed masonry, featuring a lantern and a gallery. In addition to the tower itself, a keeper’s house and several accessory buildings are located within the compound.
Previously serving as a landfall marker for ships destined for Paphos Harbour, the lighthouse played an important role during the period when Cyprus was a critical British military base. At that time, the British protected the vital shipping route through the Suez Canal, safeguarding passage to their colonies.
Today, this centuries-old landmark stands not only as a proud symbol of the region’s rich maritime history but also as one of Paphos’ most popular attractions.
