International Reply Coupons (IRCs) are a product offered by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) as a means for people to send a letter or postcard to an international destination without knowing the exact postage amount required.
An IRC acts as a type of voucher that can be exchanged at a post office in the recipient country for the required postage to send a letter or postcard to the sender's country. The value of the IRC is equivalent to the cost of a standard letter to the sender's country, including return postage.
Example: You can send an IRC + a postcard with your address written (Any kind - from Titina to FOTW, from any photo postcard to MOTW) - to... Zimbabwe Main Post office - and kindly ask the postal staff to affix stamps on your postcard and send it back to you! It is not 100% guaranteed - because it interefere with human touch, the postal staff, but in the most of cases - it works!
The IRC can be purchased at any Post Office and it is valid till the date printed on it - in this case 31 December 2025. It is accepted by postal services members of UPU worldwide (192 Countries), making it a convenient option for sending mail internationally.
The International Reply Coupon (IRC) does not need to be cancelled by the country of origin (it is optional). Instead, it can be exchanged for postage at any post office in the recipient country. The recipient country's postal service will handle the cancellation process, ensuring that the IRC can only be used once. The IRC can be exchanged for the required postage to send a letter or postcard to the sender's country, without the need to calculate the exact amount.
