The red color represents the blood of Kanak warriors who fought for independence, the yellow star represents the unity of the Kanak people, the green stripe represents the land, and the black stripe represents the Kanak people themselves. The Kanak (indigenous Melanesian) Flag was adopted by the Congress of New Caledonia on July 13, 2010.
